If you own a car, you know that it’s an investment. Because of this investment, you’re probably a careful driver; making sure to avoid dents, dings, and scratches. If you’ve owned a car for a few years, chances are your car’s been broken into at least once. However, the worst thing that can happen by far is walking outside to get into your Nissan only to realize it’s been stolen. Bummer! Here at Glenn Nissan, we recently found out that the Nissan Altima and Nissan Maxima are on the list of vehicles most sought after by thieves. Double bummer! We don’t want you to worry too much, so we’ve compiled this short list of things you can do to help prevent your ride from being taken by the bad guys (especially if it’s on the list of the most stolen cars!):
Keep Your Vehicle Locked at All Times, Even While Driving
Unfortunately, thieves are a tricky bunch. If you’re stopped at a light, it’s a prime time for a car thief to try to get into your car. If the door is locked, the thief won’t bother trying any harder and usually go on his way.
Never Leave Your Car Running and Unattended
This on seems like it should be obvious, but there are those mornings when you get in the car, start it up, and realize you left your coffee on the counter. So, you leave your car on and run inside for just a moment. Unfortunately, that’s when it’s easiest fro someone else to get in and take off!
Be Particularly Cautious at Night and Park in a Well-Lit Area if Possible
Thieves love the dark because they know it’s harder for other people to see them. If you have to go shopping in the evening, try to park under a streetlamp or closer to the store where the lights are on.
Here at Glenn Nissan, we know that these steps won’t guarantee that your car never gets stolen, but it will help to make it harder. As al!ways, make sure you’re aware of your surroundings no matter where you go. These steps will keep you, and your Nissan, safe for a long time!
