What to Do if You’re Being Followed – Lexington, KY

We’ve all had that strange feeling that we’re being followed, only to turn around and realize no one’s there. Unfortunately, sometimes there is someone behind you, and being followed can be a scary reality.  We here at Glenn Nissan want you to aware that even if you’re in the super safe and reliable Juke, Rogue, Versa, or Altima, there’re some not very nice people who may be following you for a myriad of reasons. The good news is, if you think you’re being followed, there’s a few things you can do about it:

Make Sure You’re Being Followed
Drive around the block, or take a complicated back route with plenty of turns.  If you’re not being followed, that suspicious car will drop out of sight after a few turns. If you are being followed, it’s time to make sure you change your destination.  Whatever you do, don’t go to your home. You don’t want this stranger knowing where you live!

Make Sure You’re Safe In Your Vehicle
Roll up your windows and lock your doors. You don’t want to be at a red light and have someone come up to your window or attempt to open your door.

Stay On Main Roads
You don’t want to be on an empty road.  The best protection you have is other people around to see what’s happening in the case of a confrontation.

Head To A Police Station
If you have a cell phone, call 911 and let them know what’s happening.  If you don’t have your phone with you, head to the closest police station and pull into the main lot.  Chances are good that the individual who was trying to follow you will give up and leave.  Take a moment to go to the station and file a report.  Try to recall the license plate number and as many details about the car as you can.

We at Glenn Nissan sincerely hope that you’ll never find yourself in this scary situation. If you do, keep these tips in mind and keep yourself safe!
